Committee Chairman’s Corner

"Throughout history, members of BSA have provided service to others. Service often occurs in small, unassuming ways-Good Turns and acts of kindness by individual Scouts in their daily lives. Troop Service Projects encourage boys to discover that even though they are young, they have the ability to make positive changes in their community and the environment. Scout Service projects benefit others while building character and good citizenship in boys. Service projects are Scouting at its best." From **From the "Scoutmaster Handbook"

Now that the "season of giving" has arrived for society, Boy Scout Troop 401 Scouts and parents need to be reminded that they are giving all year long though the Troop service projects that they participate in with the troop and patrols. Scouting for Food, Pie Bakes, Kids Kove cleanup and lawn watering, Adopt a Road, Candlelight Walk songbook and candle distribution, St. James Church cleanup, Repair and fill the sand buckets for the church, St. Joe’s Box Wrap... These activities have impact in our community, environment, and our Scouts. Remember, consider yourselves "year round givers!"

Have a happy and healthy holiday season.

Scoutmaster Minutes

Hello all, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It is nice to see the Troop doing so well and everyone participating in all of our activities. We have had a very busy couple of months and it doesn’t look like it will slow down for a couple of weeks. Over the next month the Troop has a couple of service projects we will be working on. These are the pie bake and the Christmas box wrap. They will both be on the same day, Dec 17th. The Scouts will need to pick one of these 2 events to participate in. The details will be going out on Monday Dec 3rd. Please make sure your son checks his mailbox every week. The info will be there.

Later, on Dec 17th the Troop will have their annual Yankee Swap. This will take the place of the Troop Meeting. All the Scouts and Leaders are welcome to participate. To do so, you need to bring a gift which is Scout appropriate and with a cost of no more than $5.00. This is always a great evening.

During the months of Jan, Feb, and March we will be camping a couple of times. Some of these will be outside in the snow, well, maybe if we ever get snow. There will not be the luxury of the cabin to keep warm. The Scouts that go on these camp outs should have the proper gear. With the Holidays coming, this would be a great time to give your son some of this equipment. If any of you have any questions on what they should be using this time of year, please talk to one of the Troop Leaders.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy holiday season from our family to yours. May God bless us all. With what has happened in our country these past few months we all need to take a step back and look at where we are and who we are with. There is no better time to do that than the present.

If anyone has any questions, concerns, or comments, please let me know. I can be reached by calling me at 424-5968 or by emailing me at a76eagle@aol.com.

YIS,
Bill Courtemanche
Scoutmaster
